Principal casting for the North Shore Music Theatre's production of Chicago — starring Deborah Gibson — is nearly complete.
As previously announced, pop star Gibson, who has appeared in productions of Grease, Gypsy and Funny Girl, will portray merry murderess Velma Kelly in NSMT's production of the Kander and Ebb musical, which begins previews Oct. 29 prior to an official opening on Oct. 31. The musical will play through Nov. 24.
Kim Morgan Greene will star opposite Gibson in the role of Roxie Hart. A Broadway veteran, Greene worked with the late Bob Fosse on the Sweet Charity revival and was also featured in the Tony Award-winning musical Fosse. Greene's screen credits include "The Colbys," "Another World," "The Gardener" and "P.U.N.K.S." Eleanor Glockner, who has appeared in Broadway's Beauty and the Beast, Guys and Dolls and City of Angels, will play Matron "Mamma" Morton, and Mark Manley, who performed in the Broadway companies of Fiddler on the Roof and Legs Diamond, will play Amos Hart. Daniel Levine, featured in The Rocky Horror Show and Jesus Christ Superstar on Broadway, will play Mary Sunshine. As of press time, the role of Billy Flynn has yet to be cast.
Directed and choreographed by Barry Ivan — in the style of Bob Fosse — the ensemble of Chicago comprises Eddie Bennett, Bill Burns Michelle Bruckner, Deanna Dys, Hillary Elliott, David Glaspie, Mindy Haywood, Eric Hoisington, Nick Kenkel, Jennifer Elle Lewis, Kathy Meyer, Brian O'Brien and Stephen Wenslawski. The musical will feature musical direction by Keith Thompson, scenic design by Dex Edwards, lighting design by John McLain and costume design by Thomas Marquez.
