News Casting Set for Free Reading of Smile Nov. 19 The free Out Loud reading series at the Ars Nova will continue Nov. 19 with Smile: A Comedy About Not Being Happy.

Lisa Peterson will direct Kathryn Walat's new work, which will be presented at the Off-Broadway venue at 7 PM. Those scheduled to lend their talents to the one-night-only event include Diane Davis, Michael Esper, Kevin Isola and Christina Kirk. "A fluke fire launches Cassie and her stressed-out pet turtle into New York City apartment limbo," read Smile press notes. "Somewhere between shacking up with the local coffee shop cutie, having freaky visions of a 2,000-year-old saint and plumbing the self-help wisdom of Virginia Woolf, Cassie wonders if contentment is really all it's cracked up to be, in this unexpected comedy about not being happy."

Kathryn Walat is also the author of Bleeding Kansas, Victoria Martin: Math Team Queen, Know Dog, Greenspace and Connecticut.
