Ken Prymus, who spent more than seven years playing Old Deuteronomy in the Broadway production of Cats, will star in the title role. The company, directed by Susan Einhorn, will also include Darlene Bel Grayson, Nora Cole, Daria Hardeman, Roumel Reaux, Rudy Roberson and Glenn Turner.

Uncle Jed's Barbershop features music by David B. Wohl, lyrics by Wohl and Kenneth Grimes and a book by Grimes. Tanya Gibson-Clark is the musical's choreographer.

Barbershop, according to production notes, concerns the 50-year-old "Sarah Jean, [who] returns home from Detroit in the early 1970s in conflict with herself. Her city life and marriage are unfulfilling and she misses the hopeful quest for something 'more,' which growing up with her great uncle [Jed] represented. When she inherits her deceased uncle's shop during the early 1970's, it is initially not as meaningful to her as it was to him. Nonetheless, the power of his dream inspires her to fulfill one of her own. She convinces the community to take on the challenge of building a 'Center For Dreams' on the same site as the shop." The musical is recommended for ages 10 and up.

On Broadway Ken Prymus has been seen in Cats, The Wiz and Ain't Misbehavin'. His TV credits include "Stand up and Cheer," "Kate & Allie," "Truck One," "Conan O'Brien," "Late Night with David Letterman," "Mad About You," "The Sopranos," "100 Center Street" and "Third Watch." Prymus' film credits include "The Model Shop," "In Cold Blood," "The Young Americans," "M*A*S*H" and "Identity Crisis." He sang the title song "Suicide Is Painless" in the "M*A*S*H*" film. Prymus recently appeared in London in The Genius of Ray Charles at the Haymarket Theatre.

Uncle Jed's Barbershop will be presented Sept. 20 at 8 PM, Sept. 24 at 9 PM, Sept. 27 at 1 PM, Sept. 29 at 9 PM, Sept. 30 at 5 PM and Oct. 2 at 2 PM.
