Classic Arts News CBC Radio Orchestra Names Principal Conductor The CBC Radio Orchestra has appointed trombonist Alain Trudel as its principal conductor, the Canadian Broadcasting Company reports.
Trudel will replace Mario Bernardi, who becomes conductor emeritus after two decades as principal conductor.

Born in 1966, Trudel began appearing as a trombone soloist while still a teenager, performing with the Montreal Symphony at the age of 18. In recent years, he has been a guest conductor for the Toronto Symphony, Winnipeg Symphony, Northern Sinfonia, and other ensembles. He is also a composer.

The CBC Radio Orchestra, based in Vancouver, is the only remaining radio orchestra in North America, according to the CBC.
