CTG artistic director Michael Ritchie announced the news Feb. 24 and said there will be no production in the Taper in July and August. In a statement Ritchie said, "This is a decision that fits the economic times we're all going through. We are acting prudently by postponing The Lieutenant of Inishmore to a new fiscal year. This will allow us to ensure the quality production that this important play deserves without jeopardizing our budget.
"Having said that, we should also make it clear that CTG is not in financial trouble. This is a stable organization and we are planning ahead to make sure that we keep it that way."
Taper season ticket holders will be given a credit that they can use toward the purchase of tickets at all three CTG theatres (for the Taper's 2010 season or the Ahmanson and Douglas' 2009-2010 season). Ticket holders are also eligible for a refund or they can donate the cost of the ticket to CTG. For more information call (213) 628-2772.
The Taper is currently presenting Pippin, a co-production with Deaf West Theatre, through March 15.
