News Centerstage's The Matchmaker, with O'Connell, Wright, O'Dwyer and Gero, Opens Sept. 17 Thornton Wilder's The Matchmaker, which kicks off Baltimore Centerstage's 2008-2009 Mainstage season, officially opens Sept. 17.

Directed by Centerstage artistic director Irene Lewis, the production began previews in the Pearlstone Theater Sept. 10. Performances continue through Oct. 12. Caitlin O'Connell stars in the title role as matchmaker Dolly Levi with Edward Gero as Horace Vandergelder. The cast also features Pamela Payton Wright and associate artist Laurence O'Dwyer.

The Matchmaker — which was the source material for Jerry Herman's Hello, Dolly! — is "a romantic comedy of mistaken identities, inappropriate hook-ups, and the constraints of class," according to press notes.
