Charles Busch will star in his parody of "big-screen soaps," which was first presented in Los Angeles. Writer-actor Busch also starred in the film version of Die! Mommie! Die!, which was presented at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival. Carl Andress, who appeared in the Los Angeles production of the show, will direct the forthcoming benefit, which will utilize many of Michael Bottari and Ronald Case's costume designs from the film. Busch plays reclusive singing star Angela Arden who, according to press notes for the film version, "is not only haunted by a secret, she's treated like dirt by her louse of a husband, her snoopy maid, and her petulant daughter. Only her mentally defective son and a well-endowed gigolo treat her with love and affection."

Busch is both a celebrated playwright and performer. His play The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, which began life at the Manhattan Theatre Club, later transferred to Broadway and was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play. He wrote the book for the Broadway mounting of Taboo, and he also penned the screenplays for and starred in the films "Die, Mommie, Die" and "Psycho Beach Party." Busch's Vampire Lesbians of Sodom was also presented at the Music Box Theatre as a benefit for The Actors' Fund of America.

The Actors' Fund of America, a nonprofit organization founded in 1882, provides for the social welfare of all entertainment professionals. Its headquarters and The Aurora Residence are located in New York City, and its nursing home and assisted living care facility are in Englewood, New Jersey.
