Charles Durning, Shirley Knight, and Steven Weber will take part in a radio performance of Horton Foote's Pulitzer Prize-winning The Young Man From Atlanta. The drama will be performed on May 6, 7, 8, and 9 at the Doubletree Guest Suites in Santa Monica, CA, as part of L.A. Theatre Works' The Play's the Thing live radio theatre series. All performances will be recorded for future broadcast on KCRW 89.9 FM. Knight will recreate her Tony-nominated role of Lily Dale, who, along with her husband Will Kidder, is shaken when when Will loses his job of 40 years soon after their son drowns. Durning plays Will, the role filled by Rip Torn on Broadway.
The performances, which are open to the public, all begin at 8 PM. Half price tickets are available to students with identification, and a "public rush" begins five minutes to curtain, when tickets will be discounted by $10, subject to availability.
