News Charles Mee's Gone, a Meditation on Grief, Gets World Premiere Feb. 1 Charles L. Mee's new play, Gone, about the many layers of grief, will get its world premiere Feb. 1 at Off-Broadway's 59E59 Theaters.

Produced by Station 5, in collaboration with The Fifth Floor, Gone is directed by Kenn Watt for a limited engagement through Feb. 11. Opening is Feb. 2.

In Gone, "Mr. Mee has created a strikingly personal new play, written for his long-time patron Richard Fisher, who died in 2004. This haunting theatrical collage is a meditation on the wildly varied emotional juxtapositions of grief. Filtering the voices of Proust, Ginsberg and others with obituaries and made-for-TV-movies, Gone is a breathtakingly beautiful look at the sadness of mourning that collides the mad-cap and the ridiculous with the haunting and the sublime, creating a powerful testament to our collective human need to remember."

The cast of Gone features Jennifer Wright Cook, Pam Diem, Signe Harriday, Clark Huggins and Peter Richards.

Charles L. Mee's works include 1986's Vienna: Lusthaus, created with Martha Clarke. He's acclaimed for writing theatrical collages that "borrow" from sources as varied as classical poetry to "The Jerry Springer Show."

His works include bobrauschenbergamerica, Wintertime, Belle Époque, Vienna: Lusthaus, Snow in June, A Perfect Wedding, Limonade tous les Jours, and plays inspired by Greek plays: Big Love, True Love, Orestes 2.0, Trojan Women A Love Story and others. His complete works are available on the internet at www.charlesmee.org.

Kenn Watt (director) is the founder and artistic director of The Fifth Floor, formerly San Francisco based, which created six original interdisciplinary theatre works, and work by selected playwrights like Charles Mee (Orestes, Summertime) and Howard Barker (Scenes from an Execution), as well as video projects from 1994-2000.

The performance schedule is Tuesday-Friday at 8:15 PM, Saturday at 3:15 PM and 8:15 PM, and Sunday at 3:15 PM. Performances are at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues). Tickets are $18 ($12.60 for 59E59 Members).
