In order to further capitalize on their family audiences, the producers of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown submitted and won allowance from the unions for an experimental schedule adding weekend matinees. The move allowed the production to have two performances on Thursdays, one Friday, three Saturday and two Sunday, giving the cast and crew off Monday through Wednesday. Most Broadway shows set their eight weekly performances to a Mon.-Sat. or Tues.-Sun. schedule.
On May 24, the production will change schedule again with two performances on Wednesday and Thursday, one on Friday, two on Saturday and a Sunday matinee. Press rep Jim Byk told PBOL (April 27) that, "Heading into summer, kids are off from school and can go to performances during the week."
As far as whether or not the move was successful, Byk replied, "It helped us through April."
Though costing significantly less than most musicals to stay afloat, the Michael Mayer-helmed revival continues to be a disappointment at the box office, reporting an audience at only 41 percent of capacity for the week ending April 25.
