"Set in 1920s New York society, Trophy is the story of Anna Pennington," according to the producers. "This beautiful 19-year-old girl marries middle-aged Moe Schmertz for his money in a desperate attempt to save her family from financial ruin and social disgrace. To her horror, she very quickly discovers that Moe is a penny-pinching stuffed shirt, and that she has sold herself very cheap."
The production features sound design by Obie Award winner Tim Schellenbaum, costumes by Ramona Ponce (of Ridiculous Theatrical Company acclaim), sets by Gregory John Mercurio, lighting by Federico Restrepo and video design by Ray Roy and Eva Mantell.
Watson Arts, under the artistic direction of award winning director and playwright Mary Fulham, is a resident company of La MaMa E.T.C.
In 2005, the troupe's original musical Hercules in High Suburbia won a FringeNYC Overall Excellence Award. Fulham's play Devotion received the MECCA (Montreal English Critics Circle) Award. She is also a two-time winner of the Montreal Fringe Festival Frankie Award for Best Comedy for both P.S. 69 and Was that My 15 Minutes?. Fulham began her career as an original member of the groundbreaking all-girl performance group The High Heeled Women. The company was last seen in New York with the holiday spectacular Balletto Stilletto, a 2006 IT Award Nominee for Outstanding Performance Art Production. Terry Waldo, the protege of the late Eubie Blake, is a virtuoso pianist and vocalist. He has produced and arranged over 50 albums. He has performed and composed for hundreds of TV programs and films including "The Naked Dance: The Music of Storyville" and "Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson," both for PBS. His theatrical credits include The Naked Dance: The Music of Storyville and Eubie and Me. He was music director for Andre De Shields' Ambassador Satch, which opened in London's West End in 2002.
