News Cherry Lane Gala Scheduled for Oct. 1 The Cherry Lane Theater will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Mentor Project with a Cherry Jubilee Oct. 1 at Capitale.

CBS' Harry Smith and Dana Tyler as well as author Adriana Trigiani will host the gala, which will honor director Harold Prince, National Arts Club president O. Aldon James, playwright Lynn Nottage and actress and Spring Awakening producer Tamara Tunie.

Presenters will include playwright Alfred Uhry, writer Theresa Rebeck, director Leah C. Gardiner and producer Joan Firestone. The evening will also feature silent and live auctions and performances by Broadway artists, who will be announced shortly.

The evening will begin at 6 PM with a VIP cocktail reception, followed by the 7:30 PM performances with dancing from 8:30-10 PM.

The Mentor Project, according to press notes, is "the cornerstone of Cherry Lane Theatre's play-development programming with veteran playwrights serving as mentors to emerging playwrights in three different Showcase Productions." In a statement playwright Theresa Rebeck said, "There is no question in my mind that this is one of the finest programs for emerging playwrights in America today. It offers young writers what they need to develop into artists: resources, time, attention, support, and a real production."
