A fictional female band and two real life female bands will, pardon the pun, band together for an evening entitled Chic Band, beginning performances Sept. 25. The episodic work - it contains four parts - runs on Monday nights through Oct. 16.
The ladies of Chic Band find themselves living in a warehouse together to become, as they would say, "a more solid unit." Unfortunately, they've just lost their drummer. The four nights trace a year in the life of the girls as they hire a new drummer, work on their sound, make advances, lose another member and take in a groupie as a roommate to help fund their return. Despite these troubles, Chic Band rises above and triumphs.
Jaene Leonard wrote the piece with Glenora Blackshire directing. Blackshire has some experience with rock'n'roll directing - her credits include Urge Overkill's videos, "Faroutski" and "Ticket to L.A."
Chic Band stars Kristin Blozie, Janna Delgado, Lisa Kogut, Leonard and Elisa Pugliese. The real life all-female or female-fronted bands include HOuse of Red, Wendy Ip, Dirty Mary, Halley De Vestern and Lovewhip.
