Thanks to such shows as Dream Boy and A Home at the End of the World, Chicago's About Face Theater led the pack of Jeff Citation Winners, scoring 5 in all. The theatre also led in nominations, with 12.
Joseph Jefferson Award Citations are given to Chicago's non-Equity theatres. Nominees were announced April 22; the awards were presented June 14 at Park West. Veteran Chicago actress Barbara Robertson served as master of ceremonies.
A special Citation was given to former Strawdog Theatre artistic director Richard Shavzin for creating the Unified Non-Equity General Auditions in 1994, which helped non-union actors gain opportunities to be seen by local playhouses.
The 1998-99 Citations season ran April 1, 1998-March 31, 1999, with the Jeff Committee judging 101 productions from 49 producing organizations. The Committee recommended 36 productions. The awards are non- competitive, and there can be multiple winners in each category. Winners are marked in bold with an asterisk.
