News   Chicago Poppins Cast Will Sing to Benefit About Face Theatre in Cabaret Series About Face Theatre, the award-winning Chicago company devoted to plays addressing gender, sexuality and social issues, will present a summer cabaret series featuring Broadway stars and local legends in two venues.

Artistic director Bonnie Metzgar and managing director Rick Dildine announced the cabaret programming June 4. It includes:

  • Poppins: A Lovin' Spoonful, featuring the cast of the national tour of Mary Poppins (now in Chicago). June 15 (doors open at 6:30 PM, performance at 7:30 PM) at Sidetrack (3349 N. Halsted) in Chicago's Boystown neighborhood. "The cast of the award-winning Mary Poppins, now running at Chicago's Cadillac Palace Theatre, will perform a cabaret to benefit About Face Theatre." Expect a selection of songs "exploring the theme of love and all its journeys." Admission is $20 and includes one complimentary drink ticket.   • The Homo Show, curated by About Face Youth Theatre director Paula Gilovich and marketing director Jane Beachy. July 20 (doors open at 7:30 PM, performance at 8 PM) at Wicker Park's Subterranean (2011 North Avenue). "Gifted queer performance artists from Chicago and the country at large perform for one night only. The Homo Show brazenly deconstructs Vaudeville, bringing you a variety show you won't soon forget, featuring provocative performers and a dance party to boot." Admission is $10 in advance at aboutfacetheatre.com, $15 at the door.
  • Flip Flop Pop: Chicago's brightest theatre and cabaret artists in a gender-bending night of music from the '70s. Aug. 24 (check sidetrackchicago.com for performance time). "Now in its third year, Flip Flop Pop: The '70s is back at Sidetrack (3349 N. Halsted). Last time our stars went to the movies but now they're hitting the pop charts as these amazing performers sing our favorite disco hits written for the opposite gender. Put together by Flip Flop regulars, this genderbent cabaret is produced by About Face artistic associate Amy Matheny and directed by About Face aartistic associate Scott Ferguson.
