Chicago Shakespeare Premieres Rose Rage Sept. 21

News   Chicago Shakespeare Premieres Rose Rage Sept. 21 Rose Rage, Edward Hall's adaptation of Shakespeare's Henry VI, Parts One, Two and Three, will have its American premiere at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre on Sept. 21.

The rendition has been cast using American actors. The production is presented in a trim four hours, with two intermissions and a dinner break. The work takes it titles from England's "War of the Roses," which is covered in Shakespeare's trilogy, which is frequently presented as a whole. "Set in a Victorian slaughterhouse," an official description goes, "battle scenes and murders are mimed before a background of literal butchery. Madrigals, hymns, Gregorian chants and Catholic anthems resound against the violence. The all-male cast of 12 actors captures the immediacy and intensity of Henry VI's dramatic events and the individuals caught up in the trilogy's cycle."

In the cast are Jason Denuszek as General of Paris and Prince Edward; Will Dickerson as Duke of Somerset, Second Rebel, Rutland, Lady Elizabeth Grey, and a Son; Sean Fortunato as Duke Humphrey of Gloucester, Young Clifford, and Lord Rivers; Chris Genebach as Cardinal Winchester, Lord Saye, and Lord Clifford; Timothy Gregory as Earl of Suffolk, Dick the Butcher, and George Duke of Clarence; Mark L. Montgomery as Duke of Exeter and First Rebel; Scott Parkinson as Queen Margaret and Vernon; Jay Whittaker as Bassett, Richard Duke of Gloucester, and Clerk of Chatham; Bruce A. Young as Richard Plantagenet Duke of York, Sir Humphrey Stafford, a Father, and King Louis XI; Joe Forbrich as Earl of Warwick and Jack Cade; Carman Lacivita as King Henry VI, John Talbot, and Lady Bona; and Fletcher McTaggart as Lord Talbot, Smith the Weaver, and King Edward IV.

Performances of Rose Rage continue through Jan. 18, 2004. Tickets for the production are $70. Gourmet box meals are available for $16 and must be ordered at least 48 hours prior to scheduled performance.
