According to the Chicago Tribune, local theatre practitioner Tom Mullen is set to launch the Chicago Theatre Workshop, modeled on Off-Broadway’s New York Theatre Workshop.

Mullen’s CTW will be aimed at developing new musicals or plays with music. He is reportedly planning a fundraiser this summer followed by a 2016-17 season. Performances of the inaugural season will take place at Chicago's The Edge Theatre. Mullen also told the Tribune that he plans to film the live productions and make them available for streaming.

NYTW has been behind the new musicals Lazarus, Once, Rent and Peter and the Starcatcher. Its current production, Hadestown, transforms Anaïs Mithcell’s concept album into a premiere stage work.
