Chicago’s AstonRep Theatre Company will open its 2017–2018 season with Robert Owens, Wilton E. Hall Jr., and William A. Miles Jr.’s adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984.
Directed by AstonRep Artistic Director Robert Tobin, the play will star Ray Kasper as Winston Smith, Sarah Lo as Julia, Amy Kasper as O’Brien, Alexandra Bennett as Parsons, and Tim Larson as Syme with Lauren Demerath, Lorraine Freund, Rory Jobst, and Nora Lise Ulrey. Ian Harris and Sara Pavlak McGuire provide voiceovers. The show begins performances September 14 and runs through October 8 at The Raven Theatre. Tickets are on sale beginning August 1.
Currently running on Broadway starring Olivia Wilde and Tom Sturridge, the play has regional productions lined up for the coming year, including one at AstonRep.
The production features scenic and prop design and technical direction by Jeremiah Barr, costume design by Aja Wiltshire, lighting and sound design by Samantha Barr, and projection and video design by Robert Tobin.
Founded in 2008, AstonRep produces theatre with the goal of inciting conversation among their audiences.
