Just in time for Gay Pride month, GayCo Productions lets out its newest creation, The Miseducation of Dr. Laura. The show will play at Donny’s Skybox Studio Theatre in Chicago June 10-July 15.
Miseducation is a sketch-comedy revue dealing with topics that affect the gay community: divisionism, the “Don’t ask/ don’t tell” policy, and June calendar girl, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, whose anti-gay lifestyle sentiments expressed on her radio show have made her an anathema to that community.
This will be the company’s fifth revue. Other productions include Whitney Houston, We Have a Problem!, Everyone’s Coming Out, Rosie!, Don’t Ask, Don’t Teletubby, and Better than ‘Better Than Chocolate’.
Susan Messing (What Every Girl Should Know...An Ode to Judy Blume) directs the cast/creators of Miseducation that includes John Bonny, Andrew Eninger, Judy Fabjance, Ed Garza, Butch (that’s her name) Jerinic, Abby McEnany and Jennifer Shepard. Jason Grimm musically directs original songs by himself and cast member Bonny and a few parodies.
The show, opening June 10, will run every Saturday at 8 PM until July 15. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at Donny’s Skybox Studio Theatre, 1608 N. Wells, on the 4th floor of Piper’s Alley, or by calling the Second City box office at (312) 337-3992. Visit GayCo’s website at http://www.gayco.net. --By Ernio Hernandez
