News   Chicago's New Miss Saigon Features Vortmann, Chua Smith, Boren, D'Angeles, Foronda Casting is in place for the new Chicago-area production of the musical Miss Saigon, to run Dec. 31-March 8, 2009, at Drury Lane Oakbrook, in Oakbrook Terrace, IL.

Kevin Vortmann will play American G.I. Chris, opposite Melinda Chua Smith (who starred in the Broadway, German and both national touring companies of Miss Saigon) as Vietnamese lover Kim. Katie Boren will play the role at matinee performances.

Opening is Jan. 8, 2009. Rachel Rockwell directs the musical, an international sensation, written by Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schoenberg and Richard Maltby Jr. The show was inspired by Madama Butterfly and is set during the fall of Saigon in 1975, and in the years that follow.

"The Tony Award-winning musical Miss Saigon is the story of a romance between Chris, an American Marine serving as an Embassy guard in the days before the American evacuation of Saigon, and Kim, a young Vietnamese woman orphaned by the war and forced to work in a Saigon night club," according to Drury Lane.

The cast also includes Joseph Foronda as The Engineer, Melissa Dye as Ellen, John Sanders as John, Evan D'Angeles as Thuy, Jillian Jocson, Audrey Billings, Christine Bunuan, Natalie Chung, Adrian Fontanilla, Freddy Franklin, Michael Glazer, Kent Haina, Chie Isobe, Scott Alan Jones, George Keating, Christina Luzwick, Richard Manera, J.P. Moraga, Mayumi Omagari, Allison Orobia, Joshua Park, Matt Raftery, Billy Sarna, Erin Thompson and Christopher Yee.
