News Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Back to London March 16 The stage version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, originally premiered at the London Palladium in 2002 and subsequently seen at Broadway's Hilton Theatre in 2005, is returning to London, beginning a three week run at south West London's New Wimbledon Theatre March 16, as part of its current national tour.

The production plays at New Wimbledon Theatre through April 3, then continues on tour to Southampton's Mayflower Theatre (April 6-24), Manchester's Palace Theatre (April 27 to May 15), Edinburgh's Playhouse (May 18 to June 5) and Liverpool's Empire (June 29 to July 17). According to press materials, the show features a cast and crew of over 100, a live orchestra, sets that include, of course, the iconic flying car plus lots of children and 11 dogs. It is scenically the biggest production ever to be staged at New Wimbledon Theatre. The show also boasts the most expensive stage prop known to musical theatre: the "fine four-fendered" flying car. Despite wanting to bring the much-loved 1968 film to the stage for years, it was not until 2002 that the producers were confident that the technology existed to successfully fly a ton and a half of machinery live on stage with actors and a dog on board.

The cast is led by Darren Bennett as Caractacus Potts, with Katie Ray as Truly Scrumptious. The cast also includes John Griffiths, Edwaerd Peel, Kim Ismay, Tony Jackson, Dean Maynard, Richard Aston, Nigel Garton, Mark Peachey, Moray Treadwell, Lucy Buckingham, David Birch, Danielle Crockford, Alex France, Gemma Fuller, Philip Guille, Peter Le Brun, Rebecca Lee, Simon Mayhew, Nicholas Munro-Clark, Simon McCann, Katy Osborne, Stephen O'Regan, Richard Parry, Helen Patching, Alexa Robinson, Andrew Waldren, Abigail Williams and Andrea Lynette Young.
