Christie Evangelisto and Bennett Leak will join Second Stage Theater as the company's associate artistic directors in March. A third associate artistic director will be named in the coming weeks, with all three working under 2ST President and Artistic Director Carole Rothman.

A dramaturg and producer with 20 years of experience in new play and new musical development, Evangelisto most recently served as the Director of Dramaturgy for Playwriting Australia. Prior to this, she worked in New York City as the literary director at Signature Theatre, where she worked on Appropriate by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Heartless by Sam Shepard, Medieval Play by Kenneth Lonergan, and Our Lady of Kibeho by Katori Hall, among other works. Other notable positions include the director of musical theatre development and resident dramaturg at Playwrights Horizons and the vice president of development at Scott Rudin Productions. She has a BA in Dramatic Literature from New York University and an MFA in Dramaturgy from Yale School of Drama.

Leak is currently the director of special events at 2ST, where he’s raised over $7 million for the organization and served as the line producer for major events. He has worked with directors James Lapine, Scott Ellis, and Trip Cullman and most recently produced a tribute show honoring Harvey Fierstein, directed by Jerry Mitchell. Select shows he’s worked on include Dear Evan Hansen, Notes From the Field, Torch Song, Mary Page Marlowe, and Lobby Hero. Bennett has a BFA from Boston University’s College of Fine Arts and studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). Prior to Second Stage, he was senior producer at Eventstyle.

Second Stage is currently presenting the world premiere of the new musical Supehero, which will officially open February 28. Directed by Jason Moore, Superhero features a book by John Logan and music and lyrics by Tom Kitt. Check out photos from the production below.
