The actor, who suffered a skull fracture and cracked vertebrae, among other injuries, was given the okay by his doctors and is expected to be in rehearsal on April 25, according to the Associated Press.

Lead producer Michael Cohl said, "His back's fine. They've taken the bolts and the nuts and everything out." Tierney, he said, hopes to be flying over audiences at the Foxwoods Theatre when the musical officially opens June 14.

Rick Miramontez, a spokesperson for the musical, told Playbill.com, "Christopher Tierney has been cleared by his doctors to return to the show on April 25th (Monday). The producers and entire company are thrilled with that news."

When performances resume May 12, audiences can expect major changes to the book as well as new songs by Bono and The Edge.

In recent weeks newcomers have been added to the creative team, including playwright Roberto Aguirre Sacasa (a Marvel comics writer and an acclaimed dramatist), director Philip William McKinley (The Boy From Oz) and choreographer Chase Brock. Brock recently provided musical staging for the City Center Encores! production of Lost in the Stars and also worked on the Wii video game "Dance on Broadway." It was previously announced that "due to the new schedule, director and co-book writer Julie Taymor will no longer continue in her day-to-day duties with the production." In an April 14 statement to the New York Times, Taymor's spokesperson said, "Julie feels that the early reviews that published before the show was ready to open sadly do not reflect the show that is closing this weekend. Most critics, in fact, will have never seen this latest version before they see one that greatly changes major threads of the story, choreography and songs."

The cast features Reeve Carney as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Next to Normal Tony nominee Jennifer Damiano as Mary Jane Watson, T.V. Carpio as Arachne and Broadway veteran Patrick Page as Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin.
