Due to ticket demand, the Keen Company has announced that its revival of Jonathan Larson’s autobiographical musical Tick, Tick...BOOM! will now be staged at the larger Acorn Theatre at Theatre Row rather than the Clurman. The company also announced that Big Fish’s Ciara Renée will star alongside the previously announced Nick Blaemire (The SpongeBob Musical, Glory Days).
Set to run October 4-November 20, the production will be helmed by Keen Company artistic director Jonathan Silverstein with music direction by Joey Chancey. David Auburn serves as script consultant on the production, and Christine O’ Grady will choreograph. It officially opens October 20.
Additional casting and a creative team will be announced at a later date.
Written before his groundbreaking musical Rent, Larson’s Tick, Tick...BOOM! is described as “the story of an aspiring composer questioning his life choices on the eve of his thirtieth birthday. His girlfriend wants to get married and move out of the city, his best friend is making big bucks on Madison Avenue, but Jon is still waiting on tables and trying to write the great American musical. This exhilarating, funny, and moving work by the late Larson will speak to anyone who’s ever gotten lost on their way to finding their dreams.”
“We're so pleased our announcement of Tick, Tick...BOOM! has been met with such enthusiasm,” commented Silverstein in a statement. “To borrow lyrics from the show, 'We are moving on up!' With generous support from The 42nd Street Development Corp, we're overjoyed to be moving Tick, Tick...BOOM! upstairs to the 199-seat Acorn Theatre. Ten years ago we moved from being an itinerant company Off Off Broadway to our home at The Clurman in the heart of the theatre district. To now move to a theatre double its size is a tremendous step for us. We are so excited to be able to share this very Keen musical with even more people in The Acorn.”
