Classic Arts News Cincinnati Ballet Hires New York Ballet Competition Winner Joseph Gatti, the gold-medal winner at the New York International Ballet Competition this past June, will join Cincinnati Ballet as a soloist this coming season, the company announced.
Victoria Morgan, the company's artistic director, was the president of the competition's jury. "This really exciting," she said. "Joseph Gatti was so clearly the male gold medalist at the 2005 competition."

Gatti trained at the Orlando Ballet School and the Royal Ballet School and danced last season with the American Ballet Studio Company.

"I had offers from other companies after I won the NYIBC gold medal," Gatti said. "But, after I talked with Victoria Morgan and realized Cincinnati Ballet had such a varied repertoire, mixing contemporary and classic, plus ballet master Devon Carney, I knew that's where I needed to go."

Cincinnati Ballet also announced that senior soloist Anthony Krutzkamp had been promoted to principal dancer, and soloists Janessa Touchet, Adiarys Almeida, and Cervilio Amador to senior soloist. New members of the company include Akua Parker, a former dancer with the Dance Theatre of Harlem, who joins the corps de ballet.
