LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles premiere of Anthony Clarvoe's dark comedy, Pick Up Ax, arrives May 1 at the Hollywood Court Theatre, after starting previews Apr. 25.

Clarvoe's play deals with two computer software whizzes whose competitors try and block their access to essential microchips. They receive a surprise visit from a slick operator with an MBA who has some "creative" ideas for dealing with corporate enemies.

Alan Bergmann directs a cast that includes Tony Masters, Ron Rapp and Steve Sturm.

Pick Up Ax received its world premiere in 1990 at San Francisco's Eureka Theatre and was later mounted at South Coast Rep and NYC's 29th Street Rep.

Clarvoe's newest play, Ambition Facing West, will be produced at the Mark Taper Forum next season, following a successful run at Seattle's Intiman Theatre. Pick Up Ax plays through May 31 at the Hollywood Court Theatre, 6817 Franklin Ave. Performances are Thurs.-Sun. at 8 PM; Sun. at 2 PM. Tickets are $13-$17. Call SHOWTIXX (888) 556-8499.
