"This is a marathon not a sprint," Warner Bros. distribution head Dan Fellman told Deadline.com. "We always knew that it would be challenged in the heart of the summer, and it was a risk worth taking. I think our mid-week days will be strong, maybe $1M a night, and we'll end up in a good place." The film's budget was reported to be approximately $38M.

"Jersey Boys" placed No. 4 at the box office this weekend, trailing behind "Think Like a Man Too," "22 Jump Street" and "How to Train Your Dragon 2." Disney's "Maleficant" came in at No. 5.

The film adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway hit was directed by Academy Award winner Clint Eastwood, was released June 20 in movie theatres across the U.S.

The movie features work by several creatives from the Broadway production, including a screenplay by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, who earned Tony Award nominations for their work on the book for the Broadway production, and choreography by Sergio Trujillo, who choreographed the original production.

The cast features members of the Broadway cast, including Tony Award winner John Lloyd Young as Franki Valli, in addition to Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda and Vincent Piazza as Four Seasons Bob Gaudio, Nick Massi and Tommy DeVito, respectively. The move to cast members of the original Broadway company in a high-profile feature film is a rarity in the Broadway-to-Hollywood machine. "I felt, after so many performances in the role, that I would have something to contribute, so I hoped I would get a shot at the role," said Young, who first played Valli a decade ago. "And I'm so happy I got to. The icing on the cake is the director that chose me."
