News Clohessy, Doman, Liberatore, Nelis and Sudduth to Relive That Championship Season at Westport Casting has been announced for the Westport Country Playhouse production of Jason Miller's Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning play, That Championship Season.

Westport artistic director Mark Lamos will direct the production that runs Aug. 25-Sept. 12. The play marks Lamos' first project for Westport since assuming his duties as artistic director in February.

That Championship Season will feature Robert Clohessy (Pal Joey, Twelve Angry Men), John Doman ("The Wire), Tony nominee Lou Liberatore (Burn This), Tom Nelis (The Medium) and Skipp Sudduth (South Pacific, The Iceman Cometh).

"This classic American play is charged with explosive humor and powerful situations," Lamos said in a statement. "Its savage clashes and brilliantly drawn characters are written with coruscating power. It provides stunning opportunities for five superb actors at the top of their form — and we have them in Westport."

According to press notes, "That Championship Season takes place at a reunion of a high school basketball coach, now retired, and four members of the team that he guided to the state championship 20 years earlier. As the evening progresses, secrets are revealed, loyalties tested and the foundation of their long-held dreams is found to be fraudulent."

The production team includes David Gallo (scenic design), Cynthia Nordstrom (costume design), Jeff Nellis (lighting design), David Van Tieghem (sound design) and B. H. Barry (fight director). The former artistic director of Hartford Stage, Lamos has directed the Broadway productions of Our Country's Good, Cymbeline, Seascape, The Rivals, The Gershwins' Fascinating Rhythm and The Deep Blue Sea.
