Jay Records president John Yap told Playbill.com that the cast of the musical, which includes Jenn Colella (Urban Cowboy, High Fidelity), George Dvorsky (The Scarlet Pimpernel), 2011 Tony nominee Christiane Noll (Ragtime, Jekyll & Hyde) and Sal Viviano (The Full Monty), will head into a recording studio next week.
The CD, according to Yap, will be "rushed out later this year."
Directed by Maltby with music direction by Andrew Gerle, the limited engagement continues through July 14 at the Off-Broadway venue, located in the Citicorp Building (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).
Closer Than Ever, according to the York, is described as an "intimate musical about love, friendship, security, happiness — and holding onto those essentials in a world that pulls us in a hundred directions at once." Read the Playbill.com feature about Maltby and Shire's work on the Closer Than Ever, then and now.
The creative team includes Kurt Stamm (choreography), James Morgan (sets), Nicole Wee (costumes), Kirk Bookman (lights) and Stephanie Wagner (props). The production stage manager is Bernita Robinson.
Show times are Monday and Tuesday at 7 PM, Wednesday-Friday 8 PM and Saturday at 2:30 PM and 8 PM.
The original Off-Broadway cast recording is available from RCA Victor.
Tickets are priced at $67.50 and are available online at yorktheatre.org, by calling (212) 935-5820, or in person at the box office at the York Theatre at Saint Peter's.
