News   Coast of Utopia's Easton and Conolly to Star in Fashion Benefit Reading
A staged reading of Anna Cora Mowatt's Fashion will be presented April 21 to benefit The Acting Company.

The 7 PM performance will be held at the Marvin Antonowsky Center for the Performing Arts (formerly the Baruch Performing Arts Center) in Manhattan and will boast the talents of former Coast of Utopia co-stars Richard Easton and Patricia Conolly. Lewis Magruder directs.

"Dating from 1845," press notes state, "Fashion is the first successful American comedy of manners – a brilliant satire of the American nouveau riche, their social pretense and mimicking of French customs. Mrs. Tiffany obsessively keeps up with French fashion, drops French phrases into every utterance and entertains anyone thought to be of French nobility. Her husband's effort to pay for her extravagance nearly leads to financial ruin."

Proceeds from the reading will underwrite education programs during The Acting Company's upcoming New York season. The season will include Orson Welles' Moby Dick Rehearsed in repertory with Shakespeare's The Tempest, May 6-17 at Baruch Performing Arts Center.

The Marvin Antonowsky Center for the Performing Arts is located at 55 Lexington Avenue (entrance on East 25th Street between Lexington and Third Avenues). Tickets, priced $35 and $60, include a reception with the actors following the performance; call (212) 258-3111 for reservations.
