Cole Reads From New Memoir "Artless" Dec. 11

News   Cole Reads From New Memoir "Artless" Dec. 11 The producer Gary Cole, not to be confused with the actor of the same name, will read from his new memoir "Artless" at the Drama Book Shop on Dec. 11 at 6 PM.

According to an email from Cole, the memoir is about his experience as a Republican activist working in the arts. Cole says that he was offered a top job at the National Endowment for the Arts, but the offer was rescinded when the Bush administration found out about two fringe theatre productions associated with his company StageDirect: "a one-man show about converting gays and lesbians to heterosexuality and a satirical fairy tale with a naughty word in the title," as he describes them in the email. Cole graduated from Stanford Law School and worked for the CIA and the private sector before moving into theatre. He has written Bodyhold, a play inspired by his experience as a London legal intern and then a CIA lawyer.

"Artless" is published by Portland Stage University's Ooligan Press. The Drama Book Shop is located in Manhattan at 250 West 40th Street.
