The producers of the new a cappella musical In Transit announced January 3 that Colin Hanlon (Falsettos, Rent) will assume the role of Steven beginning January 10 at Broadway's Circle in the Square Theatre (235 West 50th Street).

Hanlon will succeed Telly Leung (Allegiance, Glee), who has taken a leave of absence due to an unexpected personal family obligation. In Transit opened December 11.

Hanlon was most recently the standby in Falsettos on Broadway. This past spring, he played Adam in Colman Domingo's new play Dot at The Vineyard Theater, directed by Susan Stroman. The singing actor plays Steven on ABC's Emmy-winning Modern Family and is the star and producer of the web series Submissions Only. His NYC and Broadway credits include Rent, Wicked, I Love You Because, and his Lortel Award-nominated performance in Pirates of Penzance.

The new musical also stars David Abeles (Once), 2016 America’s Got Talent contestant Moya Angela (Ghost The Musical), 2012 American Beatbox Vice Champion Steven “HeaveN Beatbox” Cantor (Broadway debut), Justin Guarini (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown; American Idol), Erin Mackey (Amazing Grace), Gerianne Pérez (Broadway debut), Margo Seibert (Rocky), Chesney Snow (Broadway debut), James Snyder (If/Then), Mariand Torres (Broadway debut), Nicholas Ward (On the Town), Adam Bashian (Broadway debut), Laurel Harris (Beautiful), Arbender Robinson (Shuffle Along), and Aurelia Williams (Broadway debut).

With a book, music, and lyrics by Academy Award winner Kristen Anderson-Lopez (Frozen), James-Allen Ford, Russ Kaplan, and Sara Wordsworth, In Transit is directed and choreographed by three-time Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall (Anything Goes, Nice Work If You Can Get It).

In Transit, which played a successful Off-Broadway run, is described as a “new, modern musical, bringing to life a vivid tapestry of characters and music in the city that never sleeps…or stands still. Inspired by the vibrant rhythms of life on the subway, In Transit follows the intertwining lives of 11 New Yorkers, all hoping to catch the express train to success, love and happiness—and the stops they make along the way.”

In Transit was originally produced Off-Broadway in fall 2010 by Primary Stages at 59E59. The limited run began previews September 21, 2010, and officially opened October 5, 2010, to positive reviews and was awarded the 2011 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble. It also had a 2012 reading and was performed in a concert version at Feinstein's/54 Below in March.

In Transit is produced by Janet B. Rosen for Six Train Productions. Scott Landis serves as executive producer.
