News Colin Joins Casa Mañana Steel Magnolias; Casting Complete Margaret Colin – who recently starred in the Broadway revival of Old Acquaintance – will join the previously announced Sally Struthers and Ruta Lee for the Casa Mañana staging of Steel Magnolias, which begins performances Feb. 12.

Colin will portray M'Lynn, with Struthers as salon owner Truvy, and Ruta Lee as Clairee. The poignant comedy will also feature June Squibb as Ouiser, Jennifer Blood as Annelle and Erin Krakow will play Shelby.

Penned by Robert Harling, Steel Magnolias follows the lives and relationships of a group of southern women who gather regularly at their local beauty parlor.

Steel Magnolias premiered at the WPA Theatre in 1987 prior to transferring to the Lucille Lortel Theatre, where it ran for 1,126 performances. The 1989 movie adaptation starred Daryl Hannah, Dolly Parton, Olympia Dukakis, Shirley MacLaine, Sally Field and Julia Roberts. The 2005 Broadway production featured Tony winner Christine Ebersole, Delta Burke, Marsha Mason, Frances Sternhagen, Lily Rabe and Rebecca Gayheart.

Harling has gone on to pen the screenplays for "The First Wives Club," "Soapdish" and "The Evening Star"; he also directed the latter.

In addition to Old Acquaintance, Colin's Broadway credits include A Day in the Death of Joe Egg and Jackie. On screen Colin has appeared in "Chicago Hope," "Law and Order," and the films "Independence Day," "Happenstance" and "Unfaithful."
