A Toronto resident since starring as The Phantom of the Opera there in 1989, he'll sing his signature songs — and then some — Aug. 12-13 at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.
Dancap Productions Inc. presents the concert engagement. Wilkinson's performance as The Phantom in the Canadian premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical was captured on a Toronto cast album. He played more than 1,650 performances at the Pantages Theatre there.
Broadway and Beyond will feature show songs including "The Music of the Night" and "Bring Him Home," but will go "beyond," as the title suggests. Expect Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," and the Beatles' "She's Leaving Home" and much more.
Wilkinson is backed by a nine-piece band, led by musical director and conductor Steve Hunter. He's also joined on stage by singer-actor Susan Gilmour, who played Fantine to Wilkinson's Valjean in Les Misérables; and cabaret star Patricia O'Callaghan, who has just released her fourth CD, "Naked Beauty."
A Best Actor Tony Award nominee in 1987 for Les Miz, Wilkinson is a recording and concert artist, as well. His latest recording is "Broadway and Beyond The Concert Songs." Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts is at 145 Queen Street West, Toronto. The concert plays Aug. 12-13 at 8 PM. Ticket prices range between $150-$52, and can be purchased online at www.DancapTickets.com.
