News Company 1B to Present Ahrens and Flaherty's Lucky Stiff Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's rarely produced musical murder mystery Lucky Stiff will be presented by the new theatre group Company 1B Oct. 8-19 at the Sage Theatre in midtown Manhattan.

Directed by Samantha Souza, the Equity-approved showcase will feature musical direction by Christopher Stephens and choreography by Amanda Trusty.

The cast comprises Michael Armstrong Barr (as Harry Witherspoon), Elizabeth Flanagan (Annabel Glick), Karen Myatt (Rita La Porta), David Tolles (Vincent Di Ruzzio), Jason Faust (Luigi Gaudi), Ethan Shell (Body of Tony Hendon), Caroline McGuire (Dominique DuMonaco/ensemble), Giovanni Rho (Emcee/ensemble), Laura Hibbard, Jonathan Zepp, Enrique Munoz and Carol Clark.

Lucky Stiff features book and lyrics by Ahrens and music by Flaherty. The musical, according to press notes, is a "zany, offbeat, and a very funny murder mystery farce about an unassuming English shoe salesman forced to take the corpse of his recently-murdered Atlantic City croupier uncle on a week-long vacation to Monte Carlo. Should he succeed, Harry Witherspoon stands to inherit six million dollars. If not, the money goes to the Universal Dog Home of Brooklyn." Song titles include "Times Like This," "Fancy Meeting You Here," "Good To Be Alive" and "Him, Them, It, Her."

Lucky Stiff played Playwrights Horizons in April 1988. The original cast starred Stuart Zagnit, Mary Testa and Julie White. The show was subsequently seen at the Olney Theater in Maryland, where it won the Helen Hayes Award for Best Musical. A 1994 studio recording features Judy Blazer as Annabel, Jason Graae as Vinnie, Debbie Shapiro Gravitte as Dominique, Paul Kandel as Anthony, Evan Pappas as Harry, Mary Testa as Rita, Barbara Rosenblatt as the Landlady, Bruce Winant as the Boarder and Patrick Quinn as the Monte Carlo Emcee.

The Sage Theater is located in Manhattan at 711 Seventh Avenue, 2nd floor, between 47th and 48th Streets. Tickets, priced $18, are available by visiting www.theatermania.com. Tickets are also available at the door. For more information go to www.company1b.com. *

Company 1B is dedicated to "giving up-and-coming actors the opportunity to not only perform in the city, but to learn about all aspects of the theatre."
