The playwrights, who hail from Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, will pen their own short plays, which they will perform alongside stage and screen actors. Among those actors scheduled to be part of WHAT'S NEW are Nancy Giles, Jeremy Beck, Tim Cain, Megan Cramer, Angel Desai, Reg Flowers, Maile Holck, and Josh Moody. Willie Reale founded the 52nd Street Project in 1981 to improve the quality of life for New York's inner-city children. Programs like Playback are designed to teach children how to create characters, situations and ultimately, write short plays, which are performed with professional actors.
This year marks the first time the young talent will pen the scripts for the production. The children from the 52nd Street Project and their actor counterparts will spend Columbus Day weekend in Bridgehampton developing and rehearsing the short-plays for presentation.
WHAT'S NEW?!? Playback 2007 will play the Julia Miles Theater, located at 424 West 55th Street in Manhattan. Tickets are free to the public; however, reservations are necessary. Reservations can be made by calling (212) 642-5052.
