Complete Casting Announced for Bway Gypsy

News   Complete Casting Announced for Bway Gypsy Complete casting has been announced for the upcoming revival of Gypsy starring two-time Tony Award winner Bernadette Peters as "Mama" Rose.

Produced by Robert Fox, Ron Kastner, Roger Marino, Michael Watt, Harvey Weinstein and WWLC, Gypsy will begin previews at the Shubert Theatre March 31 with an official opening scheduled for May 1. Academy Award winner Sam Mendes will direct the production, which will feature original choreography by Jerome Robbins and additional choreography by Jerry Mitchell.

Joining Peters will be Tammy Blanchard (Louise), John Dossett (Herbie), Kate Reinders (Dainty June), David Burtka (Tulsa), Heather Tepe (Baby June), Addison Timlin (Baby Louise), Heather Lee (Tessie Tura), Julie Halston (Miss Cratchit/Electra), Kate Buddeke (Mazeppa), Brooks Ashmanskas (Mr. Goldstone/Pastey), Michael McCormick (Uncle Jocko/Cigar) and William Parry (Pop/Mr. Kringelein). Maureen Moore, who stoodby for Peters during her run in Song & Dance, will also standby for the star in this production.

The Gypsy company features Matt Bauer (Yonkers), Graham Bowen (Swing), Benjamin Brooks Cohen (Kansas), Macintyre Dixon (Phil/Mr. Weber), Joey Dudding (Farmboy/Georgie), Wally Dunn (Character Man), Brandon Espinoza (Farmboy), Tim Federle (Farmboy/Bougeron-Cochon), Eamon Foley (Newsboy), Jenna Gavigan (Hollywood Blonde), Sarah Jayne Jensen (Hollywood Blonde), Molly Kallins (Balloon Girl), Dontee Kiehn (Hollywood Blonde), Ginifer King (Hollywood Blonde), Julie Martell (Hollywood Blonde), Pamela Remler (Swing), Stephen Scarpulla (Newsboy), Chandra Schwartz (Agnes), Alexandra Stevens (Balloon Girl/Baby June u.s.), Cathy Trien (Maid) and Jordan Viscomi (Farmboy).

The creative team includes Anthony Ward (scenic-costume design), Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer (lighting design), Acme Sound Partners (sound design) and David Brian Brown (hair design). With orchestrations by Sid Ramin and Robert Ginzler and dance arrangements by John Kander, Gypsy features musical supervision by Patrick Vacariello and musical direction by Marvin Laird, the latter Peters' longtime musical director.

* Though already available to American Express Gold Card members, tickets to Gypsy will go on sale to everyone else Feb. 2. The Telecharge website lists ticket prices as follows: orchestra and front mezzanine $100, rear mezzanine $85, front balcony $75 and rear balcony $65; Wednesday matinees have a $95 top ticket for orchestra and front mezzanine with rear mezzanine $80, front balcony $70 and rear balcony $60. The Shubert Theatre (West 44th Street) box office will open for business Feb. 24.

Gypsy features a score by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim and a book by Arthur Laurents. The last Broadway mounting of the famed musical cast "Cagney & Lacey" star Tyne Daly in the role created by Ethel Merman. The 1989 Daly revival won a Tony for Best Revival of a Musical as well as one for its leading lady.
