Guettel, the grandson of famed composer Richard Rodgers, will teach the workshop in his loft over six Wednesday evenings, from Oct. 29 to Dec. 10. According to a press release, the purpose of the workshop is "to broaden your creative approach to help generate new work, rather than develop your existing material." Adam Guettel has been hailed by The New York Times as “a young composer of strength and sophistication.” His latest musical, The Light in the Piazza, is a fairy tale romance about the love affair of an American woman — who is not all that she seems — with an Italian man in Florence. Piazzarecently debuted at Seattle’s Intiman Theatre with a cast led by Titanic’s Victoria Clark.
Only 20 participants will be accepted to the program, and tuition is priced at $450 . Those wishing to apply should call (212) 677-0040, ext. 304. An application may also be downloaded by visiting www.mtwnyc.org.
