The wry words of Gerard Schwarz, sent in an e-mail message to Melinda Bargreen of The Seattle Times. The newspaper reports that the conductor was injured last week while skiing in Canada. He sustained fractures to his leg and ankle on Dec. 6, according to the website Crosscut.com, and is undergoing orthopedic surgery this week.
Otherwise, Schwarz, who has been music director of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra since 1985, is keeping his regular schedule. His next appearances with the SSO — which he will conduct using a stool — are the New Year's Eve weekend performances of excerpts from Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
