Connick Jr. will also arrange the songs, write the orchestrations for the contestants, and perform on the May 5 results show. He is the first “Idol” mentor to perform all of those duties.
Connick, Jr. was nominated for a Tony Award for his Broadway debut in The Pajama Game, and he will return to the stage this July for 11 nights in Harry Connick Jr. in Concert on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre.
Joining Connick, Jr. on the May 5 results show is pop superstar Lady Gaga, who will perform her latest smash hit, “Alejandro.” Audiences will also find out who receives enough votes to stay in the competition and who is sent home.
"American Idol" airs Tuesday nights at 8 PM on FOX; the "Idol" results show airs Wednesdays at 9 PM.
