Arcaro served for eight years and is a founding member of the company. Grappo began working with the troupe and directed the company's most famous production, the fervid workplace drama Tabletop, which had a commercial run Off-Broadway and won a Drama Desk Award. She also directed Hold Please for The Working Theater. Other credits include the pre-Broadway engagement of the recent revival Little Shop of Horrors and the world premiere of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's The Mystery Plays for Yale Repertory Theatre.
Since 1985, The Working Theater has been dedicated to producing plays for and about working people. Past shows include Let Me Live, Ascension Day, I Am a Man, Belmont Avenue Social Club and A Drop in the Bucket.
