Originally produced at London's Royal Court Theater, Shining City is set in Dublin, "where a guilt-ridden man reaches out to a therapist after seeing the ghost of his recently deceased wife," according to Manhattan Theatre Club, which will produce the play at the Biltmore Theatre. "Wrestling with his own demons, the therapist can only do so much to help. Routine visits between the two men quickly become a gripping struggle to survive, changing both of them for the rest of their lives."
In the published edition, the play is paired with a shorter play, Come on Over, which debuted at the Gate Theatre in 2001.
The book runs 90 pages and is priced at $11.95.
The Broadway production begins April 13 for a May 3 opening night. Martha Plimpton, Brían F. O'Byrne and Oliver Platt will star. The production will be directed by Tony Award winner Robert Falls.
