COSTA MESA, CA -- Auditions are now underway for South Coast Repertory's Professional Conservatory, an intensive eight-week summer training program for serious acting students.

Classes will be held daily from 10 AM to 6 PM, June 2-Aug. 4 in the working environment of SCR's theatre. The Conservatory is headed by director Karen Hensel with a faculty of top professionals.

A successful actor, writer and director, Hensel has been associated with SCR for 19 years and was winner of the L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award for her performance in SCR's production of Top Girls. She can be seen on CBS's "The Young and the Restless" in the continuing role of Doris Collins.

The staff numbers teachers from every area of the acting profession, led by Shakespeare instructor Jenifer Parker; audition techniques instructor Mark Taylor; and dance instructor Serge Neponim.

Enrollment in the Conservatory is limited to 35 students in order to enhance individualized training. There will be classes in all phases of development for the growing actor. Beyond the course work, students will attend seminars and discussions by playwrights, actors, directors, casting and talent agents.

Enrollment is by audition only and will continue through June 4 at SCR, located at 655 Town Center Drive. Videotaped auditions will be accepted by applicants living outside southern California only. Tuition for the 8 week program is $2050. Call (7124) 708-5577.
