With De La Guarda comfortably ensconced at the Daryl Roth Theatre, and Wit a continuing hit at the Union Square, producer Roth continues to expand her presence in the downtown theatre scene. In the next few weeks, construction will begin on a 99-seat, black box second stage at the Daryl Roth Theatre. According to Andrew Kato, who recently joined Daryl Roth Productions as an associate producer, the space, as yet unnamed, will not actually be in the current building but "right behind it" and anticipates construction to be completed in well under a year's time. He said discussions are already underway as to the first tenant, but no decisions have been made.
"We're discussing doing Bomb-ity of Errors," said Kato. "We did a presentation at the Blue Heron yesterday for corporate sponsors." Co written by NYU students and workshopped at Vassar this summer, Bomb-itty is a hip-hop version of William Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors. "Daryl is committed to doing it," Kato told Playbill On-Line, "possibly at the new space."
