The Actors' Playhouse in Coral Gables, has announced its 2000-2001 season at the Miracle Theatre. Musicals, plays and children's theatre productions make up the new season.
Highlights for the Actors' Playhouse season include English and Spanish productions of Evita, Alan Ayckbourn’s West End hit, Things We Do for Love as well as You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, a 50th anniversary tribute to "Peanuts," the late Charles Schulz's comic strip.
Altogether, Actors’ Playhouse mainstage productions for the coming season include: Joe di Pietro's (I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change) Over the River and Through the Woods, Oct. 4 - Nov. 26; Evita, Nov. 15 - Jan. 31, 2000; Things We Do for Love, Jan. 17 – Feb. 11; Violet, Feb. 28 - Mar. 25; and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, April 25 - May 20.
The critically lauded score for Violet, (New York Drama Critics Circle Award, Best Musical) was written by Brian Crawley with music by Jeanine Tesori.
The presentation of Things We Do For Love marks the second time the playwright's works have been produced by the Actors' Playhouse: Ayckbourn also penned Communicating Doors, which ran last season there. The Actors’ Playhouse children’s theatre schedule comprises "classes and children’s camps through its conservatory, [hosting] the National Children’s Theatre Festival in January, and [the] Annual Reach for the Stars fundraising auction."
The children’s theatre schedule includes Anne of Green Gables, Oct. 4 – 28; A Christmas Carol The Musical, Nov. 27 – Dec. 30 [with a special "tea and caroling" holiday performance on Dec. 24]; the Sixth Annual National Children’s Theatre Festival, Jan. 10, 2001 – Feb. 5; Festival Family Fun Day, Jan. 13; Jack and the Beanstalk, Feb. 22 – June 2; and The Secret Garden, June 21 – Aug. 11.
