News Costumes from "Hairspray" Film on View in Manhattan Costumes from the upcoming movie "Hairspray" — based on the Tony-winning musical of the same name — are currently on view in Manhattan.

The costumes, which were designed by Tony and Oscar nominee Rita Ryack, can currently been seen in the windows at Ann Taylor LOFT in the company's Times Square Flagship store. Among the 11 costumes featured in the one-of-a-kind installation are the matching pink sequined sleeveless dresses worn by Edna Turnblad and Tracy Turnblad and Motormouth Maybelle's gold lame dress with red feather trim.

The "Hairspray" display — which also features original movie props, images from the film and hundreds of cans of hairspray — is currently on view through July 22.

Adam Shankman directs and choreographs (and appears in a cameo with Hairspray creators Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman) the "Hairspray" film, which stars John Travolta as Edna Turnblad, Christopher Walken as Wilbur Turnblad, Queen Latifah as Motormouth Maybelle, Amanda Bynes as Penny Pingleton, Zac Efron as Link Larkin, Brittany Snow as Amber von Tussel, Michelle Pfeiffer as Velma von Tussel, James Marsden as Corny Collins, Elijah Kelly as Seaweed, Allison Janney as Prudy Pingleton and Nikki Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad.

The film is based on the still-running musical Hairspray, which itself was based on the 1988 John Waters film of the same name. The movie musical was adapted by Leslie Dixon from the Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan book and features the score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman with additional songs created for the film. The film hits theatres nationwide July 20.
