Entitled PRESS CUTTINGS: the new plays, the series will present new works by theatre critics/journalists who are also playwrights. Those chosen for the first year of the new program include David Cote, Jeremy McCarter and Playbill.com's senior correspondent, Robert Simonson. The plays by Cote, McCarter and Simonson will be developed by the Gingold Theatrical Group in a year-long workshop process. Once Gingold secures a theatre space, the company plans to present two Shaw plays as well as at least one of the new works.
The new plays, according to press notes, will focus on "the Shavian precepts involving individual human rights, political and social responsibility and the comic absurdity of daily life." David Staller and Peter Flynn will produce the PRESS CUTTINGS series, which is named after a George Bernard Shaw one-act.
