News Could This Be Your Big Break? Harlem's Legendary Apollo Theatre Plans Broadway Amateur Night The Apollo Theater will host a special Broadway edition of its famed Amateur Night with Tony winner Billy Porter (Kinky Boots) as guest. The April 1 show will feature a line-up of contestants that will base their performances on Broadway shows and musicals.

Winners of the event will go on to perform at other Apollo amateur nights, the April 8 Show Off edition and later, Top Dog on June 3. The final winner, given the title of Super Tog Dog, will receive a cash prize of $10,000. The contest is open to musicians, singers, dancers, comedians, rappers and spoken word artists.

Amateur Night at the Apollo theatre is held every Wednesday and winners are selected by an audience vote. The evening is currently being hosted by comedian Capone, with each show kicking off with a pre-party featuring video and music by DJ Jess.
