Court Theatre's Helsing Is New Managing Director of Milwaukee Rep

News   Court Theatre's Helsing Is New Managing Director of Milwaukee Rep Milwaukee Repertory Theater's board of trustees named Dawn J. Helsing as its new managing director on June 8. Helsing begins work Aug. 15, but she will attend Rep meetings and functions as needed prior to her start date.

Helsing comes to Milwaukee Rep from Chicago, where she most recently served as executive director of Court Theatre, where "she helped achieve strategic plan goals for growth and stability working with the artistic director and board of trustees as well as helped build the theatre's profile, nurturing fruitful collaborative relationships locally and nationally," according the Rep.

Prior to that role, she served as director of development for Baltimore's Center Stage. Other professional experience includes Yale Repertory Theatre (associate managing director); Ensemble Company for the Performing Arts (managing director); Center Stage (telemarketing manager and marketing associate) and Arena Stage (communications and special events associate).

Helsing has a bachelor of arts degree in English from Grinnell College (Grinnell, IA) and a master of fine arts degree in theatre management from the Yale School of Drama.

Helsing will replace former managing director Timothy J. Shields, who left The Rep in December 2008 to become managing director for McCarter Theatre in January 2009 and William P. Prenevost, who has been interim managing director for The Rep since December 2008.

Rep board president John Kordsmeier recently stated, "This is an important time of transition for The Rep, with the need to replace the previous managing director and to begin the process of hiring someone to succeed Joe Hanreddy as artistic director in mid-2010. Dawn's talent and experience will be valuable in her role as managing director as we plan for the success of The Rep for many years to come." Milwaukee Repertory Theater mission statement reads: "Milwaukee Repertory Theater plays a vital role in the cultural life of our region through: creating theatrical productions of the highest standard which explore and illuminate the human condition; providing an artistic home for a diverse company of theatre professionals, including a resident acting company and providing a variety of educational programs for all ages."
