Performed by Love and Almond with direction by Kevin Newbury, Kansas City Choir Boy features music and lyrics by Almond. The piece tells the story of small town lovers who become separated when the woman travels to New York in search of her destiny but ultimately disappears. Love and Almond are joined by a chorus and string quartet, with musical direction by David Bloom.
The operetta, which marks Love's musical theatre debut, garnered critical acclaim following its Off-Broadway premiere in January. Performances at the Kirk Douglas are set to run Oct. 15-Nov. 8.
The Kirk Douglas 2015-16 season will kick off with The Object Lesson, a solo show written and performed by Geoff Sobelle (Sept. 4- Oct. 4). Joining Straight White Men and Kansas City Choir Boy will be Sheila Callaghan's gender-bending Women Laughing Alone with Salad and a revival of Samuel Beckett Endgame.
